STORY BEHIND

The Princess Andromeda is Back

Percy, and his friend Rachel drive to a ridge overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. There, Rachel reveals that her father is sending her to a finishing school and that she wants Percy to go on a vacation with her. Blackjack, Percy's Pegasus and Charles Beckendorf, a son of Hephaestus, interrupt by landing on the hood of Paul Blofis' Prius. Beckendorf then announces that it is time for Percy and himself to take out the Princess Andromeda, a cruise ship filled with monsters. Rachel Elizabeth Dare soon kisses Percy and wishes him good luck, resulting in Percy asking Beckendorf not to tell Annabeth. Percy and Beckendorf sneak onto the ship and set Greek fire explosives in the engine room. Percy leaves the room to distract the monsters on the ship, telling Beckendorf to meet him at the air pad.
Percy is confronted by Kronos. After being defeated, Beckendorf was revealed to have just been captured, but had tricked them by making it look like he was going towards and not away from the engine room. He then sacrifices his life so Percy could escape from the ship. Percy then passed out in the ocean from burns and getting touched by Kronos' scythe, which is rumored to be able to cut a person's soul away with just one swipe.

Poseidon's Kingdom

Percy dreams as he drifts unconscious through the ocean. The vision took place on Mount Othrys during a conversation between Krios and Hyperion. In the vision, the two Titans talk of the their plans to destroy Mount Olympus. After the two are done talking, Percy hears Nico di Angelo's voice telling Percy to follow his plan. As Percy comes to, he realizes that he is in Poseidon's kingdom and is being tended to by his half-brother, Tyson. Tyson then leads Percy to Poseidon's throne room, where he meets Poseidon's wife, Amphitrite, and Triton, his other son. Poseidon then informs Percy that he is battling Oceanus, and that Percy must return to Camp Half-Blood to fulfill the rest of the "great prophecy."

The Great Prophecy and Typhon

Returning to Camp-Half-Blood, Percy and Annabeth, daughter of Athena, retrieve the prophecy from the Oracle and bring it before the camp's war council. Percy reads the prophecy and realizes (initially) that regardless of the side he chose to fight for, he would die. Then Clarisse, angered because of not getting a chariot that the Apollo Cabin had claimed, decides that her cabin and Ares will not support the war. Percy, with the help of Chiron, then discovers that Typhon has escaped his prison (Mount St. Helens) and is heading towards Mount Olympus (unguarded because all of the gods are battling Typhon across the country) to destroy the gods' domain. Percy and the other counselors of the camp decide they need to concentrate on defending Olympus. The night following the meeting, Percy dreams of Rachel. In his dream, Rachel looks over two photos she has recently drawn based upon dreams she's had. The first is a picture of Luke when he was nine years old and the second a picture of Mount Olympus surrounded by lightning and Kronos' army. The next day, Percy and Annabeth review the camp's cabins and reviewing reports sent into the camp. Percy then reveals that Grover has disappeared without a trace and that his and Percy's empathy link is weakening. Percy also discovers that the Ares cabin wants the chariot that the Apollo cabin recovered during a raid led by the Ares cabin, and that they will refuse to fight unless they are given it. Needing a break, Percy wanders to the training arena to visit Mrs. O'Leary, his Hellhound. When he arrives there, Ms. O'Leary runs into the forest, causing Percy to chase after her. He follows her to the clearing where the Lords of the Wild hold their meetings. There, Percy finds Nico, Leneus, one of the Council of Cloven Elders members, and Grover's girlfriend Juniper talking about Grover. Leneus initially denies to help Grover, but is then forced by Percy. When Nico and Percy are alone, Percy decides to carry out Nico's plan and they then travel together to find Luke's mother in order to discover Luke's past by traveling on Mrs. O'Leary, who, like all creatures of shadow, can shadow-travel.

The Last Olympian

Percy and Nico arrive at Luke's mother's house in Westport, Connecticut and find that she is in a psychotic state. Ms. Castellan greets the two boys as if they were Luke when they arrive. She then invites Percy and Nico to lunch with her. Percy discovers that Luke ran away in order to protect his mother. Also they learned that when he turned his soul over to the Titans, he required his mother's blessing. Having the information they came for, as they attempted to leave, Luke's mother suddenly has a vision of her son ruled by Kronos and cries out in horror. Disturbed, Percy and Nico run from the house to find that Mrs. O'Leary has been approached by the goddess Hestia. Hestia provides for the boys and then tells Percy that no matter what side he chooses, he must remember her because she is the last Olympian. She goes on to explain that while all the Olympians are gone, she is the only hope for Olympus and that all must remember her when they fight. Hestia then sends

Hestia, The Last Olympian
Percy and Nico to Percy's house where they are greeted by his mom and Paul, who finally believes Percy's mother about his life as a half-blood. Percy and Nico tell her of their plan and she reluctantly gives Percy her blessing, agreeing that he will signal her if he survives the war. Ready to carry out the plan, Nico and Percy travel to Central Park to reach the Underworld via Shadow-travel.

The Underworld

When Percy and Nico arrive at Central Park, Nico tells Percy they'll need music to enter the Underworld from that entrance. Suddenly, Percy feels Grover's presence and, using his empathy link to awake Grover out of a deep sleep, Grover falls out of a tree near Percy and Nico. He explains that he was spreading the news about Pan's death and recruiting fighters when he saw a strange man walking through Central Park, where everyone near the strange man was falling asleep. When Grover went to confront the man, he turned his powers on Grover. After Grover's story, Nico says that Grover had encountered Morpheus a minor god that can put people to sleep and that his presence meant that the invasion was coming sooner than it was expected. Grover then plays a song to open the gate to the Underworld before leaving to tell Juniper that he was alive. Traveling into the Underworld, Nico detours Percy towards the gate for the dead, but ultimately hands him over to the Furies, including Alecto, who posed as Mrs. Dodds in The Lightning Thief.
When Percy realizes he's been tricked, he retaliates against Nico but is stopped by the Furies and has his sword thrown off a cliff, leaving him defenseless. Nico explains that his father had promised him information on his past if he turned in Percy. Upon arriving in Hades' throne room, Percy, Nico and Hades are joined by Persephone, and her mother Demeter. As a reward, Hades reveals that he sent Nico and his sister to the magical hotel they were abandoned at to protect them and so that they would never age until they left, and that the lawyer that collected them was Alecto (Mrs.Dodds). Hades promised that he planned to not help out in the fight for Olympus and then after the Titans took over, strike their weakened forces. He then sends Nico off and takes Percy captive.
Percy ends up having a nightmare and wakes up having Nico pinned to the floor of his cell. Nico then helps Percy escape to the River Styx on Mrs. O'Leary. When the two get there, Percy has a talk with Achilles before bathing in the River Styx to become nearly invincible (his only weakness is the small of his back). When Percy is done, he is attacked by Hades' minions and Hades himself. Percy escapes after defeating Hades and his minions using his new found strength (bathing in the Styx made him more powerful, faster, and stronger, among other things). As he leaves he tells Nico to stay and convince Hades to fight.

A Visit From The God of Messengers

Percy travels to the Empire State Building, meeting up with some other campers. Remembering that one of them could be a spy, he tells the group of his plan to get Zeus to defend Mount Olympus. They head to the 600th floor and find the throne room empty except for Hestia, who is still tending the fire. She sends him a vision of the day Luke and Thalia found Annabeth, the same day Luke gave her the knife she still uses, and when Luke meets his dad, Hermes, for the first time. Afterward, Hestia leaves after a grumpy Hermes arrives, who relays a message from Athena to defend Manhattan by using Plan 23. To Percy, Athena says to ' remember the rivers' and also staying away from her daughter. Annabeth mentions Luke, Percy defends her. Hermes was about to crush Percy with his caduceus, but Martha and George stop him. The god of messengers departs with sadness and grief.

The Battle Begins

They go outside when they find out that all the mortals in New York have fallen asleep because of Morpheus. Afterwards, Percy sends groups of campers to guard the bridges and tunnels of Manhattan from Kronos' army. As Kronos and Hecate use their magic powers to slow down time, Thalia and the Hunters of Artemis come back to guard the Lincoln Tunnel on 33rd Street from the army. Percy and Annabeth fly on pegasi to help Apollo's campers on Williamsburg Bridge. They encounter and defeat many monsters such as hellhounds, dracaenae, etc. Percy soon encounters and defeats the Minotaur again, as shown in The Lightning Thief. He then heads to the bridge to fight Kronos. As Percy realizes how much power he has (Percy bathed in the River Styx) he strikes Riptide into to the bridge that causes a force to make the bridge break. After that, Kronos disappears and the campers settle at their new headquarters, a hotel at the southeast corner of Central Park. Some of the demigods help Annabeth with her wound which she had gotten after she saved Percy's life by jumping in front of Ethan's blade which would have hit Percy's weak spot.

Percy's Dreams

Percy dreams about Maria di Angelo and Hades arguing about Nico and Bianca's safety (World War II). Hades

wants to take them to either the Underworld, or to the desert where time stands still and Maria doesn't agree with Hades' idea. Zeus then makes the hotel explode, killing Maria di Angelo, because he is afraid of the Great Prophecy. Hades sends Alecto to take Nico and Bianca to the Lotus Hotel, where Zeus can't harm them. Percy then dreams about Rachel at the beach with her parents. She has a feeling that New York is being attacked by a monster and that Percy is in trouble. When she oversees this, she persuades her parents to leave the beach with her.

Prometheus visits the campers

Percy is awoken by Thalia, who told him that a Titan, Prometheus, was here to negotiate. Thus, Percy, Grover, and Thalia went to Central Park where the Titan stood with Ethan Nakamura, an Empousa, and a giant. The Titan soon stated that Olympus is destined to fall, and that he should surrender. When Percy refuses, he shows him more of Luke's past, mainly an argument between the young demigod and his father. Percy was moved by the vision, but remained adamant, so Prometheus gave him "Pandora's box," which was actually a pithos (jar), and told him that if was to open it and let "Hope" go that he would take that as a sign of surrender.

Hyperion, Flying Pigs and Chiron's Friends

Percy from exhaustion falls asleep, but in his dreams realizes that the Titans are attacking at Central Park. He quickly wakes and heads down there with some forces. The Titan Commander is revealed to be Hyperion, The Titan of the East and Light. The two battle it out on the lake, and Percy notes that Hyperion is weaker when he's wet. Percy, unknowingly, starts a mini-hurricane and douses Hyperion's flames repeatedly. Grover and his friends then successfully trap him inside a maple tree. Almost immediately, a Clazmonian Sow, descends wreaking havoc. Percy and Blackjack chase after the flying pig. After a while, Percy activates some automatons and orders them to destroy the Sow. After they successfully do so, he retreats back to the Empire State Building. Arriving there, he realized that the Campers were pushed back to near the doors of the Building. Luckily they are saved by Chiron's Friends, the Party Ponies. Chiron however notes, that the Titans will be back, and that they should heal their wounded.

Dionysus, Old Friends, Drakons, and the Spy

After talking with Annabeth over Luke, Percy suddenly finds himself at Bobby Earl's party in the southern United States. There he finds Dionysus playing Pac-Man. Dionsyus tells him not to lose the Empire State Building, and asked him to make sure that his son Pollux didn't die. He then went back to playing Pac-Man, cursing at Blinky when it killed his Pac-Man promising to take his soul, and sent Percy back to New York. When Percy is back he hears a helicopter and realizes it's Rachel. He goes to save her, because the Pilot fell asleep, however Annabeth sneaked into the helicopter and landed it safely. Rachel then left with Chiron, after telling Percy her strange dreams. Percy is yet again tired, and hits the sack. He sees Kronos ordering Ethan and Prometheus to release the Drakon. He wakes and organizes his forces for battle. He and Annabeth go fight the Drakon despite the fact that only a child of Ares may kill it. However they're surprised when they see Clarisse leading her cabin into battle. However, after "Clarisse" falls from her chariot, they knew something was wrong. The real Clarisse arrived and they realized the fallen one was Silena Beauregard. Silena soon passed away, after revealing that she was the spy. She was the spy due to the fact that Luke blackmailed her into saying that she will be saving many lives. Clarisse, out of rage, kills the Drakon.

Back to Olympus

After Clarisse defeated the Drakon, Thalia suggested that Percy and Annabeth should go to Olympus to help set up the final defenses. On their way to the elevator, they saw Grover kneeling over Leneus, who was sacrificed in the battle. After Leneus turned into a laurel, Grover accompanies Percy and Annabeth to plant Leneus in the gardens of Olympus. While they were on Olympus, they helped to cheer up the wounded. Percy finds Pollux with a broken arm and tells him to help with the wounded and not battle. When they reached the palace, they saw Rachel holding Pandora's pithos and Annabeth and Grover went to find more Greek Fire and Hephaestus traps. After that, Percy and Rachel sat next to Hestia and started talking to her. Percy gives Pandora's jar to Hestia for safe-keeping so that he would not have the urge to give up. Annabeth and Grover reluctantly helps Percy to Poseidon's throne so that he could get his father's attention. Percy tells Poseidon of his plan to save Olympus and tells him that Kronos sent Oceanus to attack him because he knew Poseidon could defeat Typhon. Percy tells him to abandon his palace to help defeat Typhon. When Percy finally convinced Poseidon, Thalia came into the throne room and informed Percy that Kronos is leading the army and he had to get down their fast.

The Cursed Blade

During the attack, Kronos makes his way up to Olympus, where he starts to destroy it. Percy, Annabeth, Grover, and Thalia quickly follow, but Thalia becomes pinned down when a falling statue of Hera, aimed at Annabeth by the goddess, lands on Thalia's leg. She is still alive and tells everyone to go on without her. In the throne room, Percy takes on Ethan Nakamura, and is able to convince him to help him fight Kronos. After trying to stab Kronos, Ethan is stopped and Kronos tosses Ethan off Olympus into the open air, causing him to crash into the ground below. Annabeth attempts to awaken Luke inside his body by calling out to him. Luke is able to flash back to them, telling them that Kronos is taking over his body and will soon be unstoppable. Kronos takes back power and hurls Annabeth across the room. When Annabeth reminds Luke of the promise he made when she was seven about how he would never let anything happen to her, he manages to regain control of his body, but Kronos begins to fight back. He tells Percy to quickly hand him Annabeth's knife before Kronos takes over his body. Percy, reluctantly gives Luke the blade knowing that if he attacked himself, Kronos would take control and defend himself. Luke stabs himself in his Achilles heel, actually on his side under his arm and commits suicide, thus banishing Kronos and scattering him.

Everyone Receives a Gift

When the Olympians arrive back at Olympus, they reward the heroes for saving Olympus. They promote Tyson to be General of the Cyclopes, and present him with the most finely made club, which he calls "stick". They allow Annabeth to be the official architect for the new Olympus. They give Grover the empty seat in the Council of Cloven Elders and he passes out. Also, all the victims of the war would achieve Elysium. Lastly, they offer Percy immortality, but after much thinking, Percy turns them down, asking them for a different gift: to claim all their half-blood children by their thirteenth birthday, to honor all minor gods (such as Nemesis, Iris, Nike, etc.) and the gods to give Hades and all other minor gods a cabin at Camp Half-Blood. He also releases the innocent people whom did nothing wrong (like Calypso). Because Percy made them swear on the River Styx, they must oblige to his wish. All the gods then congratulate him.

STORY BEHIND

Plot

The book begins with Percy going to a freshmen orientation class at Goode High School, a school where Paul Blofis, his mom's boyfriend, teaches. While there, he meets Rachel, a clear-sighted mortal whom he met previously at the Hoover Dam in The Titan's Curse, and is attacked by two Empousai, Tammi and Kelli. Percy slays Tammi, but Kelli got away. Unfortunately, Paul Blowfish and some freshmen saw the incident. Percy and Rachel escape through a broken window, and Percy, along with Annabeth, make their way to camp.
After arriving in camp, Percy stops by the arena and sees "the biggest hellhound he's ever seen", Mrs. O'Leary. He tries to stab her, but is soon parried by Quintus , the new sword-master, who reveals that Mrs. O'Leary is his pet. Chiron comes over and picks up Percy. He drops him next to Annabeth, Clarisse and a crying nymph, Juniper. Percy soon figures out that Grover has only one week to find Pan, the lost God of the Wild. Percy rushes over to his cabin to clean up his cabin for the cabin inspection. As soon as he reached the Poseidon cabin, he sees his half-brother, Tyson, cleaning up. Tyson hugs him and has fixed his broken shield, the one he broke last winter during the fight with the manticore, Dr. Thorn.
Later, in a camp game designed by Quintus, Annabeth and Percy were attacked by three giant scorpions, and find an entrance to the Labyrinth, a magical underground maze, under Zeus's Fist within the heart of the camp. In a dream, Percy finds out that Luke plans to use the Labyrinth entrance to invade Camp Half-Blood.
Annabeth leads a quest with Percy, Grover and Tyson to find Daedelus, the maze's creator. Grover believes he can also find Pan somewhere in the Labyrinth. In the Labyrinth, they come across the minor god Janus, the Queen of Olympus Hera, and they also rescue an ancient Hundred-Handed One, Briares, from Kampê.
They then meet Nico di Angelo at the Triple G Ranch. After defeating Geryon , a triple-chested monster, at the ranch, they continue on their way, parting paths with Nico, who makes amends with Percy. Once back in the Labyrinth, the foursome match wits with a Sphinx. They then split up when Grover claims he can hear Pan calling to him. After a meeting with Hephaestus, Annabeth and Percy go searching for monsters that are invading the forge god's territory, which is also Mt. St. Helens. Before battling the half-dog, half-sea lion monsters called telekhines, Annabeth kisses Percy because she believes that Percy may die. Percy summons water from within himself to defeat the monsters, but the resulting explosion sends him to a phantom island called Ogygia. Percy encounters a girl named Calypso, who is a daughter of Atlas, and a Titan. Calypso falls in love with Percy, but Percy leaves her when he learns that Camp Half-Blood is in danger. With the help of Calypso, he gets back to camp by sailing on a magical raft.
Percy realizes that he knows a mortal who knows the way through the Labyrinth, so he, Annabeth, and Rachel go back to the Labyrinth and go look for Daedalus' workshop and for Grover and Tyson. They find Nico, while they battle Minos, Kelli and some giants that try to attack Daedalus. Rachel, Percy, Annabeth and Nico use pairs of golden wings to escape, leaving Daedalus, who stays to help Mrs. O'Leary. Percy then opens Kronos' sarcophagus and finds Luke's body. This means that Kronos is back and has fused his own and Luke's forms. Percy tries to run from Kronos and Rachel throws a hairbrush at the Titan's face. Luke yells in pain, but Kronos comes back into control as they escape.
The four then find Grover and Tyson, who find Pan, and watch Pan as he dies. Then, the five of them leave Rachel in the city, go back to camp, and fight in a war between the monsters and the campers. With the help of a terrible cry emitted from Grover, the monsters retreat from the battle, and then Percy goes home. Poseidon arrives for Percy's fifteenth birthday so Percy could explain everything to him. Poseidon tells Percy he is his favorite son before leaving. For his birthday, he calls Tyson to his house and Nico comes too. Nico says that he knows how to beat Kronos. The book ends at a cliffhanger as Percy tells Nico, "Come in and have some cake and ice cream. Sounds like we've got a lot to talk about."

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: "The Titan's Curse (part 3) "

STORY BEHIND

Meeting Grover at Westover Hall

In December, six months after the Sea of Monsters adventure, Percy, Thalia and Annabeth go to Westover Hall to meet Grover, who had found two demigod siblings there, Bianca and Nico di Angelo. Thalia displays the ability to manipulate The Mist to convince a resident teacher there that the three belonged to the school and manages to not let the three get kicked out before they could find the satyr. Grover soon informs them that Dr. Thorn, the vice-principal of Westover hall, is a manticore (a half scorpion, lion, and human monster), and is suspicious of the two half-bloods' true identities. Thalia formulates a plan to distract Dr. Thorn; however the plan backfires on them. Percy, who was forced to dance with Annabeth to blend in with the crowd, sees Dr. Thorn attempting to sneak away with the two half-bloods. He couldn't see Thalia, Annabeth, or Grover, so he followed Dr. Thorn. When he got to Bianca and Nico, Dr. Thorn threw a thorn and it grazed his shoulder. Percy soon recognized the feeling of poison. Percy was too weak to fight and Percy heard him talk about The Great Stirring and wondered what could possibly be stirring. Percy got close to Bianca who was freaking out and Nico who was overjoyed and scared. Percy let Dr. Thorn bring them to a cliff and he called someone and said that 'the package was ready to be delivered'. Percy concentrated hard to send a message to Grover, through their empathy link, that he was in danger. It worked and soon Grover, Thalia and Annabeth show up and Dr. Thorn reveals his true form as a manticore. Some silver arrows pass Percy and hit the manticore. Then Thorn shoots a volley of thorns to the shooters and more silver arrows came out and split them in half perfectly. The shooters got out of the bushes they were all young girls wearing silver clothing. Their skin seemed to have a slight silvery glow. They were the Hunters of Artemis. They are about to shoot when Dr. Thorn lunged at Percy and Thalia, knowing they were weak and Annabeth climbed on Dr. Thorn with her knife, then the hunters shot and he fell from the cliff, taking Annabeth with him.
The Hunters set up camp and Percy was invited to come and have a talk with Artemis, goddess of the hunt, who appears in the form of a girl around the age of 12. She asks Percy to restate what Dr. Thorn mentioned and concludes that dangerous times were near. She decided to hunt a powerful monster, one that has the power to bring down the gods and Olympus. Before she goes alone to do so, Zoë is placed in charge of the Hunters and has to stay at Camp Half-Blood until Artemis returns while they're still at camp outside Bianca chooses to join the Hunters and attain immortality and a new family, along with forswearing romantic love forever, while leaving Nico in the trust of those at Camp Half-Blood

Thalia Attempts to Drive

The group receives a ride from Artemis's brother Apollo who lets them use the sun chariot, with Thalia at the wheel. The combination results in a gut-wrenching experience for the group because Thalia is scared of heights and the sun chariot can fly. But at last, they arrive at Camp Half-Blood (in the canoe lake). Percy and Thalia lead Nico for a conversation with Mr. D and Chiron. The two are quickly forbidden to carry out any rescue plans they have for Annabeth, with Dionysus stating that there was a small chance that she would survive.

Percy's Latest Dreams

Chiron announces that a "friendly" game of Capture the Flag was going to be held against the hunters, as it is a tradition at Camp Half-Blood. Percy returns to his cabin to learn that his father has installed a fountain for him, filled with golden drachma within to remind to keep in touch with his family. Percy sends an Iris message to Tyson, only to learn that the Princess Andromeda is being protected by old spirits and that it was headed to the Panama Canal.
Percy soon has a dream in which Luke tricks Annabeth into holding up the sky, the former burden of Atlas. Percy tells Grover of his dream, only to learn of the possibility that Annabeth was considering joining the Hunters. Percy attempts to seek help from the Oracle, but the Oracle doesn't respond. Later, after a humiliating defeat in Capture the Flag by the Hunters, Percy and Thalia were about to come to arms when Percy sees the Oracle walking toward Zoë. It was astounding as, according to Chiron, the Oracle never left the attic of the Big House.

The Hunters, Demigods and a Satyr team up

A discussion is held about who is to go on the quest. It was decided that Zoë, Thalia, Bianca, Grover and Phoebe would go, leaving Percy protesting. When asked whether his determination was due to Annabeth, Percy hesitates. In the end, the decision was final and there was nothing he could do to change it. Chiron tries to comfort him. Percy then sends an Iris message to his mother, and finds her chatting with Paul Blofis, her new boyfriend. In the end, Sally encourages Percy to do what he thinks is right.
Later, Percy has another dream, in which Artemis takes Annabeth's place holding the sky to save her from likely death. In the dream, the General tells Luke to kill Annabeth, but Luke convinces the General to let him keep her alive until winter solstice, as further bait. Percy awakes to be called by Blackjack, a pegasus, to rescue a marine cow-like creature called the Ophiotaurus, whom Percy names Bessie, not knowing what it is, thinking it's a girl, and not knowing its true power.
Upon his return, Percy finds Nico eavesdropping on the Hunters. Using Annabeth's Yankees cap, he turned himself invisible and learns that Phoebe is bedridden due to a prank the Stoll brothers pulled. He quickly stops Nico, who was attempting to follow his sister on the quest (which Percy figures out after the conversation between the hunters). Percy promises Nico that he would try to protect Bianca, before taking off on Blackjack and following the group.

The Smithsonian

They stop at a museum after many hours and from a distance Percy sees Dr. Thorn confirming that Annabeth is alive and that his dream had been true. Dr. Thorn does not go into the museum with the rest of them, and instead goes somewhere else. Percy follows, and soon he sees the General and Luke. There the General creates kittens, and fires the foolish mortal who brought him cat teeth. He finally gets the right teeth, which are used to create skeletal warriors, which are almost impossible to destroy, by putting dinosaur teeth, which are really dragon teeth, into soil and casting a spell. Their original purpose was to kill Zoe and Bianca. The General was about to give them a cloth to get the Hunters' scent when Percy grabs it. However, the skeletons tear a chunk out of Percy's sleeve and inhale his scent, making him their target.
Percy quickly escapes using Annabeth's Yankee cap and notifies the others. Though the group (Zoë in particular) was rather surprised and angry to realize he had followed them, they are interrupted when the Nemean lion attacks. Nothing is able to pierce its armor, much to the displeasure of the group. However, Percy discovers a weakness and has an idea to expose it. He finds astronaut food in a gift shop and throws them into the Nemean lion's mouth. It causes the creature to expose his mouth long enough for Zoë to finish him off with an arrow.
Zoë then gives Percy the trophy of the lion pelt, saying that he was the one who defeated the lion fair and square, even though she was the one who shot the killing arrow. The skeleton warriors, disguised by The Mist as gray security men, are now following Percy, but Zoë refuses to leave him behind as she realizes that he is the fifth quest member. They soon reach an area called Sun West line after taking many trains to lose their followers. There, they meet a homeless person and share his fire, who little do they know is Apollo

The Junkyard of the Gods

Percy soon encounters Apollo again when they get on a train headed west. Apollo advises him to seek out Nereus, the Old Man of the Sea. Percy soon had a dream, in which he is given the sword Anaklusmos by a girl. Unbeknownst to him, he is in fact seeing through the eyes of Hercules and the girl he later realizes was Zoë Nightshade.
With help from Apollo, they reach a small town in New Mexico. There they are surrounded by the skeletal warriors and Grover faints as Pan's presence hits him. Following that, the skeletons surround them, using handguns. Though Percy deflects a bullet and cuts down a skeleton warrior, it immediately forms back together, reassembling itself. Somehow, though, Bianca defeats a warrior, stabbing it right in the chest, her knife blasting it to flames. However, this does not stop another from shooting at Percy. Miraculously, Percy survives and discovers that the Nemean Lion pelt he wears is bulletproof. Grover then senses Pan's presence again and a wild gift from him, the Erymanthian boar, a giant boar, comes and temporarily defeats the skeletal warriors and carries them further on to San Francisco. It takes them to the Junkyard of the Gods, and Percy meets Ares and talks to Aphrodite, at which point it is hinted that Annabeth and Percy will most likely have a romantic future. She also tells him that he will have a 'tragic love life'. Eventually, the group enters the junkyard (located near Gila Claw, Arizona), where Bianca tries to steal something, a MythoMagic action figure for her younger brother, but she awakens a defective Talos and enters via a maintenance hole in his left foot to destroy him. She succeeds in destroying the prototype Talos, but is electrocuted when Talos crashes into electric lines, causing him to short-circuit and crash to the ground. When failing to find her, Grover tearfully announces that the next stage in the prophecy has been fulfilled: Bianca di Angelo died in the desert, the land without rain. Its bad enough that one of them has been lost, but now they are in bigger trouble with the skeletal warriors- it was only because of Bianca that they are dealing with 11 skeletal warriors instead of 12

The Hoover Dam

Finding a truck in the junkyard, Thalia drives until they reach a river. There, the group canoes to the Hoover Dam. They are attacked by the 11 remaining skeletal warriors (but not before making some 'dam' jokes) and Percy for one second thinks that one of the Skeletal soldiers is behind him and blindly slashes at a mortal girl who can see through the Mist, named Rachel Elizabeth Dare. Because she is mortal, the blade passes right through her, like it's an illusion. She saves Percy by confusing the skeletons, allowing Percy and his friends to escape. The group gets trapped on the dam but they fly off on giant angel statues built for Zeus by Athena.
Reaching San Francisco, Percy wrestles Nereus, the Old Man of the Sea, and learns Bessie the Ophiotaurus is the monster they seek, for burning its entrails will give them power to destroy Olympus. Grover takes Bessie back to camp after Thalia is enticed to wield the Ophiotaurus' power by Dr. Thorn, who attacks them on the pier. They manage to get an Iris message to Camp Half Blood and see Dionysus, the camp director. He saves them after Percy reluctantly asks for help.

Percy takes the Titan's Curse

They go to see Annabeth's father, Frederick Chase, to ask for help and he lends them his car, which cannot be returned to him as it explodes due to a lightning bolt that Kronos threw to make Thalia angry at her father. They climb to the Garden of the Hesperides, where Zoe meets her sisters and is poisoned by the dragon, Ladon. They continue to the place where Atlas used to hold up the sky, and they see Artemis taking on his burden. Annabeth is bound and gagged by Luke and Atlas. Realizing that the prophecy made by the Oracle involved him, Percy takes the burden of the Titan's curse from Artemis. In the ensuing fight, Atlas kills his daughter by throwing her against rocks; she is later turned into the constellation "The Huntress" by Artemis. Artemis kicks Atlas back under the weight of the sky as only a Titan can be forced to bear the sky, the impact pushes Percy backwards and the sky smashes Atlas' back before he struggles to his knees. In a battle between Thalia and Luke, Luke falls into a chasm; Percy assumes that Luke is dead, but it's confirmed by Poseidon that the traitorous demigod had survived. They go to Mount Olympus via pegasi, including Blackjack.

The Winter Solstice

When Percy, Thalia and Annabeth arrived, the gods had already started the meeting. Thalia chose to be in Zoë's place as the Hunters' lieutenant so that she will not turn to 16 and she will not be the child of the prophecy. Athena suggested that the gods should kill Percy because he will be the next child of the prophecy after 2 years. But fortunately, many of the gods voted not to kill him. Poseidon also vouched for Bessie, the Ophiotaurus. He will keep it in Mount Olympus. After partying with the gods, they go back to camp. Percy told Nico about Bianca's death and gave him the figurine of Hades, which Bianca found in the junkyard of Hephaestus . Nico tells Percy that he hates him for not saving his sister and starts to run away. Percy figures out that Nico's father was Hades after 4 skeletal warriors appear and Nico unintentionally splits the earth to swallow them up. The remaining 7 skeletons are never seen again in the rest of the series. While Percy discusses this with Annabeth, Grover arrives, claiming he heard Pan in his mind saying "I await you" while drinking coffee.
